4th June – Captain Simon Hopper’s Charity Day
This Saturday is our Captains Charity Day with all entry fees being added to this year’s donation to Hope House.
The format will be an eighteen-hole Stableford Competition played from the Whites tees with all returned scores being acceptable for handicap. For members wishing to enter there will be an additional Better Ball pairs competition.
Entry Fee
The competition entry fee will be £5 and if you wish to donate more, please place your money into a separate envelope and drop it into the Captains Slot.
Stableford Competition
Members should sign into the competition, complete the score card, enter your score into the computer and drop the score card as normal.
Pairs Competition
Members wishing to enter the Better Ball pairs should collect an additional score card and complete it as required under the Rules of Golf 23.2.
Which means you need to write BOTH players names and handicap indexes onto the card. Then you must record the gross score identifiable to the relevant person on the card. E.g., the gross scores for player one should be recorded in column A and the gross scores for player two should be recorded in column B.
At the end of the round only one partner and your marker need to sign the card before dropping it into the Match & Handicap Slot.
Prizes:
In the Stableford competition 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each section will receive the normal prize voucher (£25, £20, £15)
In the Better Ball competition, the winning pair will receive £30 each, second place will get £20 each and third £10 each.
As always there will be a pay-out for all members lucky enough to get two on any hole.
11th June – The Walker Cups
This will be an eighteen-hole stroke play competition (NOT Maximum Score) played from the white tee boxes.
The three section winners with the best nett score will win one of the three Walker Cups. The Best Gross on the day of the competition will win a £30 prize voucher.
18th June – Alzheimer’s Trophy
This will be an eighteen-hole stableford competition played from the white tee boxes.
25th June – Davidson Cup and Club Championship Qualifier Round Three

Captains & Presidents Day
Based on a recommendation from Match & Handicap the Council have agreed members must have eight competitions on their scoring record in 2022 to be eligible to win one of the main prizes * on both Captains Day and Presidents Day. General Play score will not be accepted.
The only exception will be for a valid medical reason BUT members must notify Match & Handicap at least one week in advance to be granted this exemption.
* include the section prizes
Members need to make sure they select the right option when prompted during score entry about hole not played or not completed. Under the rules of handicapping there is a difference:
NOT PLAYED
There are various circumstances that may result in a round not being completed and some holes not being played. For example, due to:
If it is determined that a player has not played a hole or holes for an invalid reason, the score will not be acceptable for handicap purposes. Invalid reasons include, but are not limited to, the following:
In either case, the Handicap Committee could add a penalty score to the player’s scoring record, if it is determined that the player’s actions were for the purpose of gaining an unfair scoring advantage.
HOLE NOT COMPLETED
When a player starts a hole but does not hole out for a valid reason, subject to other provisions set out within the Rules of Handicapping, the player must record their score as appropriate for the situation and depending on the format of play, for example, net double bogey or zero Stableford points.
Notes:
If the format of play does not allow a player to pick-up their ball before holing out, for example an individual gross score or net score stroke play competition, the player will be disqualified from the competition.
In a Maximum Score format of stroke play, there may be situations where a player has not reached their net double bogey score before reaching the maximum score as determined by the Terms of the Competition. In such cases, the player should record either a net double bogey or zero Stableford points.
