Greenacres (Men’s) Golf Club AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Greenacres (Men’s) Golf Club will be held on Wednesday 29th March 2023 at 7:00 pm in the Golf Centre.

All nominations shall be given to the Honorary Secretary of the Club concerned at least 28 days prior to the Annual General Meeting of that Club.

Members questions under Any Other Business to be sent in writing to the Honorary Secretary at least 7 days prior to the AGM.

Prize Giving

Greenacres (Men’s) Golf Club Prizing Giving for the 2022 Season, including the Winter League will be held in Barnaby’s on Saturday 25th March 2023 at 3:30pm.

All prize winners wishing to attend should let a member of the Council know, so they have an idea of numbers.

On Saturday 25th March, although we will be back to the summer start sheet, the competition will be the R&A Open Qualifier which will be played over holes one to nine.


Golf Club Membership Fees

The Golf Club Membership Forms for the 2023 have been published on the Membership page >>.

Paper copies will be available in the members rooms shortly.

Membership of the Golf Club must be paid by the 30th of March 2023. If payment has not been received by this date, the player will be marked as resigned on the Golf Ireland on 31st of March 2023.  In doing so they will no longer have an official handicap under the World Handicap System and will not be able to play in a competition or submit general play scores at another club. They will also be ineligible to represent the Club in any Inter Club Competition.

If the payment is not received by the 15th of April 2023, restrictions will be applied to stop members entering internal club competitions and by the 30th of April 2023 they will be removed from the Club Computer.

Note: This is has not and has never been a GUI Membership Fee and is not Golf Ireland Membership Fee.


Inter Club Competitions

The Men’s Golf Club have entered five Golf Ireland Competitions for the 2023 and the Holt Shield. The Handicap Criteria for all these competitions has been published on our website and the notice boards.

Members who meet the criteria are invited to put their name on the Team Sheets in the members room.


Club Match Play

The Club will be running its annual singles and pairs match play competitions with the pairs reverting back to the pre-covid format of Foursomes. Full details can be found on the Match Play Page.

The Campbell McCleave Competition this year will act as a qualifier for a Fourball Match Play competition – see our Terms of the Competition for the 2023 season.


Local Rules & Terms of the Competition

This website has been updated with the Local Rules and the Terms of the Competition for the 2023 season. Paper copies will be posted in the Members Room next month.

IMPORTANT: these changes DO NOT come into play until Saturday 1st April 2023.

Inter Club Competitions 2023

The Men’s Golf Club have entered the following competitions for the 2023 season.

Golf Ireland

All participants must be a member of the Club they wish to represent on 30 April in the year of the event.

AIG Men’s Junior Cup

To be eligible, players must have a Handicap Index that was active on 1 January in the year of the event and not lower than 2.5 in the previous calendar year.

Players must have 20 scores recorded on their handicap record as of 31 December 2022.

AIG Men’s Jimmy Bruen Shield

To be eligible, players must have a handicap Index that was active on 1 January in the year of the event and no less than 3.5 in the previous calendar year.

Players must have 20 scores recorded on their handicap record as of 31 December 2022.

For a pair to be eligible, their lowest Handicap Indexes in the previous calendar year, when added together, must not be lower than 16.0.

AIG Men’s Pierce Purcell Shield

To be eligible, players must have a handicap Index that was active on 1 January in the year of the event and no less than 12.5 in the previous calendar year.

Players must have 20 scores recorded on their handicap record as of 31 December 2022.

For a pair to be eligible, their lowest Handicap Indexes in the previous calendar year, when added together, must not be lower than 25.0.

Shots will be given in accordance with allowance specified by WHS (ie, 50% of the pair’s combined course handicap). If a pair’s lowest Handicap Indexes in the previous calendar year, when added together, exceed 34.0, they must use 34.0 to determine their playing handicap on the day of the match.

Men’s Four-Ball [Withdrawn by Golf Ireland]

Fred Perry Trophy

55 years and over as specified in Section A of the Golf Ireland General Regulations.

To be eligible, players must have a Handicap Index that was active on 1 January in the year of the event and a lowest Handicap Index of no higher than 24.0 in the previous calendar year. A player with an Handicap Index of 24.1 or higher in the previous calendar year may still compete, but must use a Handicap Index of 24.0 to determine Course and Playing Handicaps in matches.

Players must have 20 scores recorded on their handicap record as of 31 December 2022.

For a pair to be eligible, their lowest Handicap Indexes in the previous calendar year, when added together, must not be higher than 36.0. Other than provided for in the first paragraph above, dropping down of players to meet the combined limit of 36.0 is not permitted. I.E. Two players with Handicap Indexes of 24.0 or lower cannot drop down in handicap to meet the combined Handicap limit.

Strokes will be given in matches based on the players’ lowest Handicap Indexes in the previous calendar year.

Ulster Cup

Over 30 as specified in Section A of the Golf Ireland General Regulations.

To be eligible to compete, a player must have a Handicap Index that was no lower than 9.5 in the period 1 Jan 2022 until 1 January 2023 inclusive.


External Competitions

Holt Shield

Handicap Index of 4.5 or higher at 1st January 2023 *

A player whose Handicap Index is reduced to 4.0, even before he has played a match, is still eligible to compete. A player is no longer eligible to compete in 2023 if his Handicap Index is reduced at any time below 4.0.
